IT’S GOOD TO BE PERSONAL ON SOCIAL MEDIA
We want to see your dog.
No really, show us more pictures of your dog. Or cat. Or chinchilla. Especially your chinchilla.
You’ve heard it before — It’s a business page. No one wants to see your pet. They just want to learn about your product. Or maybe, it’s a business page. No one wants to see your vacation photos. They just want to learn about your services.
Well, we’re here to tell you that people do, in fact, want to see those things. All of those things. They want to learn about your products and services, sure. But more than that sometimes, they want to get to know you. They want to know about the person/people behind the brand. Sometimes that can come in the form of brand photos, founder stories, and staff highlights. But it can also come in the form of photos and stories about pets, vacations, daily life, routine, failures, successes, funny moments, sad moments, and more.
In this digital age, people increasingly want to connect with other people. They want to relate to others and see the face behind the company. We’ve used this stat recently, but it applies here, too! 82% of consumers trust a company more — and 77% are more likely to buy from a company — if the founder uses social media. Consumers do not want to see formal, regurgitated content from your business’s feed. They want fresh, personal, relatable content that builds camaraderie and trust.
Another thing to consider is that people are looking for entertainment, a little bit of light in their day. Sure, they use social media as a search engine, and social media itself acts like an advertising platform. But when people are scrolling, they’re looking for something different. They want to be amused, entertained, inspired, and lifted up. In a sea of advertisements, your positive personal photos will stand out and catch people’s eye.
Utilizing a variety of imagery in your advertising can also help people remember your brand. Now, you do have to be careful with this. There’s a lot to be said for consistent brand imagery. But when you insert photos periodically that stand out from the rest, they can stay in people’s memories differently, making them think of you in a different way and at different times.
So post that personal photo, funny anecdote, aspirational vacation shot, etc. At the very least it will brighten someone’s day. But it also may touch someone in just the right way to where they'll follow you and buy your product when they’re ready.
